Cancer

Cancer encompasses numerous diseases marked by the unchecked growth and division of abnormal cells. These rogue cells can invade and destroy healthy body tissues, posing a severe threat to normal bodily functions. A particularly alarming aspect of cancer is its potential to spread to different parts of the body, complicating treatment and recovery.

As indicated in the Mayo Clinic, cancer is the second leading cause of death in the world. In fact, in 2022, it was projected that there were around 20 million new cancer cases and 9.7 million people died from the disease. About 1 in 5 people will develop cancer at some point in their lives, with roughly 1 in 9 men and 1 in 12 women dying from it. These data is due to the significant global inequities in cancer services, according to the WHO’s global survey of HBPs

Further, the three major types of cancer in the same year were lung cancer, as the most common cancer globally, with 2.5 million new cases (12.4%), followed by female breast cancer at 2.3 million cases (11.6%), and then colorectal cancer at 1.9 million cases (9.6%).
